What 2012 will bring depends on the choices you make
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 30: This weekend welcomes in a new year, 2012. This time of the year is an introspective time for many who look over the past year and decide that the new year will be a better one; a more productive one.
Bermuda sits at an interesting place right now. She is at a key place of choice.
Some Bermudians can look back over the year and decide that they were prosperous in 2011 and that they should stay their course.
Some may look over the year 2011 and understand that the year was not a good one and that they are surely capable of a better year.
As with all things, the choice of what 2012 will look like will involve one thing: choice.
You will choose how to begin 2012. Will you begin it by giving thanks to God?
Will you begin it by partying the night away?
Will you begin the year sober?
Will you begin the year drunk and out of your mind?
Will your children be around for you to hug them as you thank God for a new year?
Will you have no idea where your children are at the dawning of a new year?
Will you celebrate with joy knowing that God has so much in store for you?
Will you wonder whether certain relatives or acquaintances will make it through January 2012?
Bermuda. Where are you positioned? It is your choice.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Today you can choose to go another way or you can choose to continue in the destructive ways of your past.
Do you understand that you reap what you sow? Do you understand that from one seed you can get many fruit?
In others words, do you get it, that whatever you sow will be multiplied back to you?
This should cause you to be very careful of what you send out into the fields, because there will be a harvest.
Here is the thing Bermuda: the babies who are born today and today’s toddlers will be the beneficiaries of what you have sown.
My prayer is that the light of those who follow after The Light (Jesus Christ) will shine forth as never before.
Indeed, during the darkest of times, the shining forth of the gospel lights will be most effective.
Christians stand today as forerunners of the final advent of Jesus, proclaiming once again to those in the darkest places of this world, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord.”
In other words, even though this was a thought on the hearts of your great-grandparents and your grandparents, it yet remains true.
Jesus Christ will return and you must make yourself ready. No one can get ready when the last trumpet sounds. You have to be ready now.
As a pastor, I cannot preach you into Heaven or preach to you Heaven after you die.
I must preach this message while you have breath in your body. And as usual, the choice is yours.
Where will you find refuge in 2012?
Are you looking for a new something or someone you can rely on?
As for me and my house we continue to do the same old and ever new thing — we seek the Kingdom of Heaven first, knowing that God will add to us what He has already prepared for us.
I invite you to come into The Light.
I beseech you to come out of darkness.
If you want life and life to the fullest, you must join in a covenant relationship with The Giver of life.
Begin the year 2012 in style.
It may be old-fashioned to some and even to many, but I declare that it has done well for my parents, my children, and I. Respice finem.
