Weekend premiere for Cutty/King duet

From LA to BDA, it’s a song about love — sort of — and you’ll get to hear it for the first time at Tha Underground Awards Show this weekend.

The new collaboration between Ninja Cutty and Marva King is, according to Cutty, more of a duet about the first six months of a relationship. King is the actress who played the lead role of Helen in Tyler Perry’s stage production of Diary of a Mad Black Woman. King visited Bermuda earlier this year, and the two artists met to create the remix of King’s single, Know You, which was released last month.

Keetha Lowe, of Starz Entertainment, was integral in the collaboration. She had been introduced to King by a mutual friend, and in turn introduced King to Cutty. Donald Robinson recorded Cutty’s vocals for the song here in Bermuda, and sent them off to Los Angeles, where King is based. Lowe says she went ‘kabonkers’ when she found out that the song would be on the single. They had expected the song to be featured on King’s CD but were pleased to find that it is now part of King’s single.

The single has, according to Lowe, already been received favourably in LA. Now, it will be premiered in Bermuda at Tha Underground Awards Show on Sunday night. Without wanting to reveal too much, Lowe said: “There will be a definite visibility of the project there from the big screen standpoint…but you have to come to find out.”

Cutty describes the song as a song about two people meeting each other.

He said: “The song is about two people meeting and hitting it off, it’s not really a love song, but it’s a song about two people feeling each other, like in the first six months of a relationship. It’s kinda sexy, a sexy song but not too explicit.”

Lowe added: “This helps to raise Bermuda’s profile and it gives [Ninja Cutty] an opportunity. Instead of it just being a track on the CD it’s managed to manoeuvre its way to the single as a remix for the original. That’s huge because that’s not easy to do. Everyone that’s heard it, including the worst critics, have absolutely loved it.

“Two of the most critical individuals are Ninja Cutty and Donald because it’s their work…they have really high standards for themselves. To see them be pleased with the project is really important — that speaks volumes.”

Robinson added: “We’re looking forward to working with Marva again…we have a few things in the works.”

Cutty and Robinson, who have worked together since high school, are already creating more songs, which will be released in the near future.

Exactly when? That’s still a secret, but Cutty wants everyone to just “look out”.

He adds: “To all my original dancehall fans that are waiting to hear me give the some hardcore stuff, the explicit lyrics, the street level stuff, the grimy stuff, it’s definitely coming. Listen out for that.”[[In-content Ad]]
