WEDNESDAY, MAR. 28: Bermuda’s celebrities will be behaving badly this Friday as part of the annual Celebrity Lock Up in aid of PRIDE.
The event helps to raise money for the drug prevention charity through well-known locals being “bailed” for
despicable behaviour in a mock court.
Basically, the worse they behave, the better the bounty.
This year’s line-up of 27 celebrities includes comedian Gina Davis, realty boss Buddy Rego, fashion store owner Terry Smith, “Mr Magic” Wesley Phillips and PRIDE’s Truell Landy.
Husband and wife team — radio host Sherri Simmons, and former press secretary to ex Premier Ewart Brown Jamahl Simmons — are also taking part.
According to Chris Williams who is helping the charity with its event this year says that it is hoped that the charity can raise $50,000 this year compared to $75,000 in 2010.
He told the Bermuda Sun: “PRIDE runs drug abuse awareness programmes in our schools, both public and private. Due to lack of funding this last year, they’ve had to eliminate the Youth to Youth programme.
“All their programmes help with our island’s youth social behaviours and impacts violence, drug use and gang affiliation.”
Others taking place in this hilarious event include Michael Freisenbruch of Freisenbruch and Meyer, Ben Fairne of Aardvark and Elbow Beach boss Edward Shapard.
The event takes place at Washington Mall on Friday 30th March between 11am and 2pm.
