Want to get better? There's no magic bullet

FRIDAY, AUGUST 26: For anyone associated with the great game of golf, there’s a dirty little secret that we all try to forget.

Every ad we see, every magazine we read and every clinic we attend keeps this hidden fact, well…hidden.

And this is a two-way street, because every golfer knows the truth but willingly plays along.

If only it were true.

As much as we all want a “magic bullet” solution that “fixes” our game, the fact is that there isn’t one—it’s going to require a comprehensive approach to improvement.

The truth is that real improvement takes work. While the latest club innovations and tips can offer small (and sometimes temporary) improvements in your game, they won’t necessarily lead to lasting results.

Swing changes are difficult and take time to really take root in your golf game.

A mix of guidance and reinforcement over time will deliver the long-term results you’re looking for.

Think of this as an “Improvement Cycle”:

Lessons — Must be relevant to your swing issues and delivered in a clear, understandable way.

Practice — Regular practice is necessary to help form new swing habits. Having the ability to monitor the swing habits you’re building goes a long way in building a better swing.

Reinforcement — Practice alone doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. Retention — Real, lasting improvement is apparent when your body starts to retain the new swing habits you’re building. This takes time and effort to accomplish.

The best way to improve is by a focused effort in a group environment.

We are bringing in Todd Sones, who will focus on the short game.

He will be conducting clinics with the Tucker’s Point coaching staff to give you the opportunity to truly improve your game, especially the short shots.

25 per cent of shots are from the edge of the green to 30 yards out.

Studies show that the average golfer loses 6-8 shots per round in those areas. Todd will be working with me and the Tucker’s Point staff to help students improve their score by targeting “The Scoring Zone”.

The concept is that you can sign up for whatever class that is relevant to you

On Sunday, September 11, the following session are available:

  • School 1: 9am-11.30am Putting
  • School 2: 1pm-3.30p.m Scoring Zone shots.
  • School 3: 4pm-6.30pm Bunkers and on courses situations.

The cost is $250 guests, $200 members per session

Members Special all 3 sessions $550.

On Monday, September 12, the following two sessions are available:

  • School 4: 2pm-4.30pm Scoring Zone shots
  • School 5: 5pm-7.30pm Putting

Cost is $250 guests, $200 members per session
