Victory at last!

Bermuda captain Irving Romaine inspired his team to their first victory of the World Cricket League - a five-wicket win over previously unbeaten Scotland.

After a miserable run of four straight defeats Bermuda had one last chance to salvage some pride from an increasingly depressing trip.

And they grasped it with both hands.

Chasing a solid total of 268 from the Scots, the front-five, in particular Janeiro Tucker (42) and David Hemp (25) laid the foundations for the run chase.

But it was Romaine, the first Bermuda batsman this tour to go on from a good start and nail a big score, who shepherded his side to victory with a well-paced 85 not out.

Support came from the in-form Lionel Cann, who hung in there with his captain, playing an uncharacteristically patient innings of 49 not out from 56 balls, with just four boundaries.

In fact, Romaine was the quicker scorer during their unbroken stand of 134 in 22 overs, which brought Bermuda past the victory target with an over to spare.

Earlier coach Gus Logie had wrung the changes leaving out star performers Dwayne Leverock and Malachi Jones and bringing in Kwame Tucker and Stefan Kelly.

And it was young Kelly who produced the goods, leading Bermuda's attack with exemplary figures of 3 for 43 from his ten overs.

Saleem Mukuddem also produced his best performance of the tour with 3 for 57 as Bermuda pegged Scotland back from a dangerous position of 157 for 2 after 33 overs to 268 for nine at the 50-mark.

It was a satisfying end to Bermuda's World Cricket League but they will still be heading home having finished bottom of the pile and with plenty to think about in the month before their World Cup campaign begins in St. Vincent.

Scotland, for their part, will remain in Kenya for Wednesday's final, against the hosts.

The two teams finished joint top of the table with four wins from five, Kenya's only loss coming at the hands of the Scots.

But Kenya's superior run-rate - aided by some mammoth victories over Bermuda and the Netherlands and now Canada - means they finish top of the group.

The Kenyans utterly routed Canada today. Tamnay Mishra's 62 guided them to 250 for nine, before Peter ONgondo (5 for 51) and Thomas Odoyo (4 for 39) ripped out Canada for 92 in less than 15 overs to seal a 158-run win.
