US Independence theme to Beating Retreat
SUNDAY, JULY 3: Beating Retreat is to take on an American note when the Bermuda Regiment takes to the streets of St George’s.
In honour of the US’s July 4 Independence Day celebration, the Regiment will concentrate on a selection of American tunes.
And the Bermuda Island Pipe Band will also get into the US spirit, with music from American composer Stephen Foster adapted for Scotland’s national musical instrument.
The guest of honour at the ceremony – which takes place at King’s Square in the island’s former capital at 9pm on Wednesday, July 6 – will be Bermuda’s top firefighter, Chief Fire Officer Vincent Hollinsid.
Regiment director of music Captain Dwight Robinson said: “St George provides a cosy environment for this parade. The Beating of Retreats at this time of year are particularly popular as the locals and visitors as the locals and the visitors in the audience really identify with the selections in the programme.”
The Bermuda Sun bids farewell...
