As Bermuda's senior players toiled in Holland, the under-19s showed how it's done with some impressive performances in Canada.

The young team got their World Cup qualification campaign off to a flying start with back-to-back victories over Bahamas and the Cayman Islands.

A four wicket haul from pace man Malachi Jones and three-wickets from his World Cup team-mate Stefan Kelly helped reduce Cayman to 165 all-out yesterday. Then Bermuda set about chasing their target, recovering from the early losses of openers Bremar and Terryn Fray to win by seven wickets.

All-rounder Jones was also the star with the bat, stroking an unbeaten 41, in partnership with skipper Rodney Trott (37 not out) to see Bermuda past their target with almost 20 overs to spare.

The victory over Cayman followed on from an even more emphatic 195-run win over the Bahamas on Monday.

Young spinner Tamauri Tucker was the star of the show on that occasion, taking 6 for 9, while captain Trott chipped in with 2 for 14 as the opposition crumbled in the face of Bermuda's spin attack.

Earlier Dennico Hollis had dug Bermuda out of trouble with the bat to score an unbeaten 76 from the number eight position and propel his team to an impressive total of 300 for 8 in their 50 overs.

Steven Bremar chipped in with 43, but the second top scorer was the extras column as Bahamas gifted Bermuda 68 free runs, including an amazing 53 wides.

Elsewhere in the tournament Canada confirmed their status as Bermuda's greatest rival with an emphatic nine-wicket win over Argentina yesterday.

The South Americans were skittled for 64, before Canada knocked off the target inside ten overs.

Argentina look to be the whipping boys of the competition having been pummelled by ten-wickets by Cayman on Monday.

In that game they were bowled out for 126 with Cayman's openers knocking off the runs inside 20 overs. Bermuda gets the chance to boost their run rate against the young Argentinians on Thursday after a rest day today. If they win that game, as expected, the stage will be set for an all-or-nothing elimination match with Canada on Saturday.

Only one of the five teams in the competition will get a spot in the World Cup in Malaysia next year and it now looks certain to come down to that final game.[[In-content Ad]]
