Two-masted schooner uses RBYC as a layover

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 28: Hamilton has been playing host to the majestic form of the two-masted schooner Adventuress this week.

The spectacular craft arrived on the island on November 18 on her way from Newport to the Caribbean.

And she has been spending most of her stay on island at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in the capital.

The 88-year-old schooner was originally built in Scotland in 1924 and was designed by William Fife.

She recently underwent major restoration in Maine that involved 30 specialist workers and totaled 80,000 hours.

Adventuress was officially relaunched at Marine Park in Rockport, Maine on July 21, this year.

The 83ft, pristine white vessel was expected to leave Bermuda on Sunday, but decided to extend her stay and was still here yesterday.

Meanwhile the bulk carrier Lizard Point appeared off the coast of St David’s on Monday to pick up new navigational charts.

The ship had been on her way from Venezuela to Canada when she was forced to divert to Bermuda to collect the extra marine maps.

She came into Five Fathom Hole at 10am so the charts could be taken out to the ship by the Pilot Boat.

And Lizard Point was on her way to Canada again in less than an hour.

Just a few miles away the Oder Gas was busy siphoning off fuel for the island at the Oil Docks in St George’s.

She also arrived on Monday from Dominica and left the island yesterday morning bound for Haiti.

Yesterday the car carrier Istra Ace sailed into Hamilton to deliver 67 vehicles.

The ship was hoping to leave again later the same day and start her journey towards Nassau in the Bahamas.

Finally this week the Bermuda Islander will arrive in the Hamilton tomorrow morning to unload her cargo of Christmas trees, fresh produce and supplies.
