FRIDAY, NOV. 2: Hurricane Sandy has caused the most flight cancellations in and out of LF Wade International since Hurricane Fabian in 2003.

All the airlines have been accommodating in waiving change and cancellation fees due to Hurricane Sandy’s impact along the East Coast of the US.

JetBlue has been excellent at giving updates on its Twitter account @JetBlue and its blog at http://blog.jetblue.com

People have been able to get information faster from the feed than through its website.

The blog also has some great photos of LaGuardia airport covered in water from the storm surge from Sandy.

You can also get some information at www.facebook.com/JetBlue .

JetBlue said they are waiving change and cancellation fees for customers whose travel was impacted by Hurricane Sandy, rebooking through November 14.

American Airlines Twitter account (@AmericanAir) has also been useful and customers have been able to have questions answered more quickly than trying to ring through its customer service number.

While both JetBlue and American get props for being on the cutting edge of proving answers and information via social media, United Airlines would get a big fat F.

Its official Twitter feed is @United and had just two tweets in the past 24 hours. (Just to note, it also has @UNITED_AIRLINES but that was used mainly prior to its purchase of Continental Airlines).

United official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/unitedairlines) is not much better with just two posts in the same time frame.

United’s travel change policy for Newark can be slightly confusing.

Part of that it has a policy for Hurricane Sandy which affects travel dates October 28 to November 1 and one for New York City which affects travel dates October 30 to November 3.

The bottom line, is if you want your money back and couldn’t travel out of Bermuda, you have the option of going to www.united.com/refunds . If you are rebooking your tickets you have a year to complete your travel.

If you were scheduled to travel on US Airways, your flight change options:

If you are scheduled to travel October 28, 2012 through November 1, 2012, your travel date may be changed to travel October 26, 2012 through November 7,2012;

When rescheduled travel commences by November 7, 2012, change fee and fare difference will be waived;

If you are scheduled to travel October 28,2012 through November 1, 2012, your travel date maybe be changed to travel November 8, 2012 through December 20, 201;

When rescheduled travel commences by December 20, 2012, change fee will be waived, however a difference in fare may apply.

If your AirTran flight was affected and you haven’t rebooked yet, you have up to 14 days after your original departure date to adjust your travel plans.

You can do that online at https://tickets.airtran.com/retrivebooking.aspx or call the airline or your travel agent.
