Tucker, Cann will miss Western Stars clash
Weather forecast: 30 per cent chance of showers on Saturday and 30 per cent chance of scattered showers on Sunday.
Premier Division
Southampton Rangers v Western Stars
Saturday and Sunday at 11am
At Southampton Oval
One of the few disappointments of Rangers’ season last year was their failure to take the two-day title.
They’ll start this campaign without all-rounder Lionel Cann who is suffering from a groin strain and has been ordered to rest for national team duty. Skipper Janeiro Tucker has also been asked to take a break to rest an injury.
Rangers’ have so much strength in depth, especially with the emerging Malachi Jones and his dad Olin Jones already in good form with the ball.
Hasan Durham has hit a rich vein of form for the national team and his pinpoint spin bowling could rein in the ambitions of some of Rangers' more aggressive stroke-makers.
With the bat, both Treadwell Gibbons and Saleem Mukuddem had a good start against Somerset last weekend.
With showers a distinct possibility a draw could be on the cards.
St. George’s v Bailey’s Bay
Saturday and Sunday at 11am
At Wellington Oval
St, George’s had a funny season last year. They were relegated from the top division in the 50-over league but still won the two-day division.
They begin their title defence with a tough match against Bay who have Ryan Steede in good form.
St George’s coach George Cannonier is relying on experienced captain Herbie Bascome and stalwarts like Troy Hall to marshal a squad of talented youngsters.
Teenage off-spinner Jade Foggo picked up three wickets for the eastenders last week and could cash in again on a pitch which is expected to favour the bowlers
Division One
St. David's v Willow Cuts
Saturday and Sunday at 11am
At Lords
George O’Brien's recovery from injury could see him feature for St David's as he warms up for his first tour with the national team.
The young pace bowler is one of the most exciting prospects in Bermuda cricket and Willow Cuts will not relish the prospect of facing him.
Cuts have yet to play this season and could find themselves facing a baptism of fire against a St David’s side that features some fine young bowlers.
Leg Trappers v Social Club
Saturday and Sunday at 11am
At Sea Breeze Oval
Social Club have stormed to the top of the one-day league with two-straight wins.
Charlie Marshall has been the main run scorer with North Village soccer coach Dwayne ‘Streaker’ Adams contributing last weekend, while opener Winston Simmons also playing an important role.
Leg Trappers were skittled last week on a quick wicket at St. George's but Graham Strange and Luke O'Connor performed well in defeat and they will be more comfortable at Sea Breeze Oval this weekend.
Division Two
Devonshire Rec v PHC
Saturday and Sunday at 11am
At Devonshire Rec
Andre ‘Doc’ Manders swan song continues as PHC travel to the Rec. Hopefully the squad won't hit a sour note like it did against Cleveland when they were out for 131 while the opposition piled up 230 runs.
Rec’s first match against Cleveland was a washout as they just managed 34 for 2 before weather halted play.
Police v Warwick
Saturday and Sunday at 11am
At Police Field
Warwick will be glad of an easier fixture after being so comprehensively beaten by St. David’s in the 50-over league.
They’ll have to bat with more patience and concentration than they did on that occasion to secure a win here.
The anticipated return of Daniel Morgan to the top order should help.
Division Three
Somerset v Cleveland
Saturday and Sunday at 11am
At SCC
All-rounder Jacobi Robinson could return for Somerset this weekend after reportedly being accidentally omitted from the team-sheet last week.
Somerset have lost two on the trot so far but will still feel they have enough ability in the squad to do well in both forms of the game.
Azeem Pitcher comes into this game on a high after his performances in the 20-20 classic and his selection for the Trinidad tour.
Somerset Bridge v Flatts
Saturday and Sunday at 11am
At White Hill Field
All-rounder Larry Fray took five wickets and scored a half-century in a losing cause last weekend.
He’ll be hoping for better against a Bridge side that looks destined for another tough year.
Dean Minors should be available to help Flatts to an impressive victory.[[In-content Ad]]
