Tropical storm Colin wreaks havoc on ship schedules
The threat of Tropical Storm Colin had a dramatic effect on the shipping world, even if it only brought some wind and rain to the rest of the island.
Cruise ships changed their schedules as a result of the forecast but Colin fizzled out leaving the island unscathed.
The Explorer of the Seas, which arrived in Dockyard on Saturday morning, left the same day to avoid the incoming storm.
Delayed
She was due to stay for two days but headed down to the Caribbean early.
The Norwegian Spirit, which was due at Dockyard on Sunday, delayed her arrival by a day following the storm warning.
She arrived on Monday and is staying an extra day before leaving first thing this morning.
The Oleander arrived in Hamilton just a few hours behind schedule on Sunday afternoon, while the Bertina fuel tanker, which arrived at the Oil Docks yesterday, is due to leave St. George’s today after bringing in fuel for Esso.
Dockyard welcomes another two huge cruise liners today. Celebrity Summit and Norwegian Dawn are in the west end for a couple of nights before they head back to the U.S.
The Somers Isles container ship was due to arrive in Hamilton this morning and was expected to be joined by the Veendam at 7am after the cruise ship spent Tuesday night at Murray’s Anchorage off St. George’s.
The Bermuda Islander arrives in Hamilton tomorrow morning. She is in town for a little longer than 24 hours before heading back to Salem, New Jersey.
In the west end, the cable ship Peter Faber is due to arrive tomorrow to pick up cable and re-fuel.
There is only one cruise ship sailing into Bermuda this weekend. The Norwegian Spirit returns to her normal schedule and is set to arrive in Dockyard at 11am on Sunday.
