THURSDAY, AUGUST 16: A documentary film about African tribes and a romantic drama will be the feature films for the Weekend Film Series on Sunday.
Milking the Rhino, a documentary about the Maasai and Himba tribes will be screened first, followed by Take This Walt, starring Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams.
Milking the Rhino will screen at 3pm, while Take This Waltz will be shown at 5.15pm. The venue for both is the BUEI.
The bermudadocs.com website reports that in the documentary, the Maasai tribe of Kenya and Namibia’s Himba tribe – two of earth’s oldest cattle cultures – are emerging from a century of ‘white man’s conservation’, which threw them off their lands, banned subsistence hunting, and fueled resentment
“Charting the collision of ancient ways with Western expectations, the film offers complex, intimate stories of Africans at the forefront of community-based conservation,” the website says.
The film has won five festival awards, including Best Documentary at the Pan African Film Festival.
In Take This Waltz, Margot (Williams, nominated for an Academy Award for her role in My Week With Marilyn) is married to Lou (Seth Rogen) but begins to question their relationship when handsome artist Daniel (Luke Kirby) moves in across the street.
Bermudadocs.com states: “Director Sarah Polley’s intelligent, perceptive drama, set in the sweltering humidity of a Toronto summer, is about obsession, the fragility of marriage, and the mystery of true love.
“It leads us, laughing, through the familiar, but uncharted question of what long-term relationships do to love, sex, and our images of ourselves.”
Tickets, $15, can be purchased in the Oceans Gift Shop at the BUEI, or by calling 297-7314.
