Trappers seeking redemption
Team wants KO Cup win
The expats hope to make up for the disappointment of losing last year's First Division Knockout Cup on a coin toss by claiming the title this time around on the artificial wicket at National Centre.
Skipper Chris Fleming said his team were anticipating a tough match with Cleveland, who beat them twice in the league on their way to winning promotion, but felt the momentum was with his side after a victory in the Twenty20 tournament at Somerset.
Aussie all-rounder Luck O'Connor is off the island and will miss the clash as will BCB secretary Marc Wetherhill who is injured.
But Leg Trappers still have a strong squad and Fleming is hoping one-time national team opener Graham Strange and Steve Drake can do the damage with the bat.
Whatever happens Fleming is hoping the game will be decided on the pitch rather than by the flip of a coin.
"I'd rather play the game and lose than win on a coin toss," he said.
"Unless it absolutely lashes it down I'm sure we'll play on the artificial surface. The forecast doesn't look too bad so hopefully there won't be a problem."
Leg Trappers finished sixth in the First Division of the 50-over league.
"We didn't do quite as well as we wanted in the league and winning this will allow us to get something out of the season."
Leg-Trappers are primarily an expat team made up largely of English guest workers. There are also two Australians, a South African and two Bermudians.
They joined the main leagues in 2003 after becoming frustrated with the Commercial League.
Fleming said the multi-national make up of the side contributed to a clash in styles.
"We play a slightly different style of cricket to most of the Bermudian teams who are generally more aggressive."
In the weekend's other game Southampton Rangers will be aiming to complete a clean sweep of domestic honours against Flatts in another day-nighter at National Centre on Sunday. Rangers have a strong squad available, even without Lionel Cann, and will be determined to add the knockout cup to the Two-day and 50-over league titles and the BELCO Cup.[[In-content Ad]]
