FRIDAY, AUGUST 24: West Jet is starting a seat sale to Toronto for $99 each way on Sunday, September 9. Including taxes and fees, a round trip ticket is $310.10.
Just as a point of reference, if you were flying out Sunday, September 2 (Labour Day weekend in the US) and returning on Sunday, September 9, that same ticket would cost you $686.10.
West Jet flies to Bermuda on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
Miami
For those of you who use Miami as a stop on your way to points south, you’ll be happy to know the airport opened its new immigration and customs facility for international travel.
So on your way back through the airport to Bermuda on American Airlines you should be able to get through quicker as it has twice as many passport control lanes than the previous facility.
American Airlines
American is also in the process of replacing the seats in its older planes. The new ones will have the in-seat entertainment system that is already popular on many other airlines. This will allow you access to movies, TV programmes, music and games.
American already has Wi-Fi available on most US flights and will start adding it to select international destinations in December.
And while I’m on the subject of American, if you ever want to check on seat sales the airline is offering, you can go to its website at www.aa.com, go to ‘Travel Deals’ in the drop down menu and click ‘Fare Sales’ for a list of deals that is exclusive to web users.
Venetian/Palazzo
The two Las Vegas hotels are offering a room rate as low as $119 a night for its Carnevale Feast. Prices will vary but you can generally get a Sunday through Thursday room at that cost with the weekend jumping up in price.
This Friday and Sunday isn’t too bad with the cost of a room for the package going to $169 per night, but the following weekend it is $169 for Friday and $399 for Saturday — it all depends on how many rooms they already have booked.
What’s included in the price is the nightly Carnivale Festivale Parade and the daily children’s activities at the Palazzo Waterfall Atrium from 10am to 6pm. You will also receive the Passaporto di Carnevale, a complimentary booklet with more than $1,000 in special offers on dining, retail, spa and entertainment. I’ve stayed at the Venetian on several occasions and have made good use of the guest booklet for dinner reservations and enjoyed a great meal at Dal Toro when I was there earlier this year.
The current special ends on September 8 and you must book by September 5.
