THURSDAY, NOV. 1: A mother and daughter team have opened in a hair salon in St George with a goal of providing an exceptional service for a great price.
Samaela Cannonier and Dr Kendra-Lee Pearman opened S Factor Hair and Beauty Salon last month and will hold a grand opening on Sunday.
Ms Cannonier, 22, graduated from Toni and Guy Hairdressing Academy in Rhode Island last year and is certified to do all aspects of beauty.
After working in two different beauty parlours, she wanted to branch out on her own.
“I decided to open a salon because it has been my dream since I was in school.
“I always saw myself being my own boss.”
Dr Pearman added: “Sam was renting a chair in another salon and once I realized how much she was paying it made more sense for her to rent her own place.
“I knew that she wanted to open her own salon so I endeavored to accelerate her dream.”
Asked why open a salon in St George, Ms Cannonier said: “I love St George for it’s very low key and laid back.
“The clientele is varied as well. I get young and old, black and white, etc.
“It’s also very close to my home base so it’s family oriented.
“St George also needed a salon where you can get everything done for a great price.”
Her mother added: “Why not St George? Our family is from St George and people who live there want to get their hair done without having to cross the bridge.”
As far as opening in a recession, Dr Pearman said: “If the price is right and the service is exceptional, people will get their hair done no matter what.
“S Factor offers great prices and exceptional service, so I believe the salon will do well in spite of the recession.”
Ms Cannonier said: “I think it’s a great idea period.
“People like to look great and feel great no matter what.
“If you can come to a place where you know you will look great for a good price you will support it.
“Yes, people are more conscious about money, but they still want to look great, recession or not.”
The stylist specialises in precision cuts, creative colour techniques and Keratin treatments.
S Factor Hair and Beauty Salon offers all things hair, makeup, and nails.
Ms Cannonier said Shakirah Brangman is the salon’s nail tech who specializes in detailed nail art, acrylic nails, manicures and pedicures and will be available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Asked who is her biggest inspiration, Ms Cannonier said: “Success. My parents raised me to believe in myself and to accept nothing but the best out of life.
“I look up to both of them so much.
“In this business endeavour, I aim for my own level of greatest and success.”
As far as her most memorable moment as a hair stylist, she said: “It was winning Rhode Island’s fashion week Avant Garde competition.
“I entered the competition nervously with one of my peers, but with our combined creativity, we concocted a serious display that left people breathless.
“I am most blessed to have memorable moments everyday when clients smile from ear to ear exclaiming that they love their hair.”
Ms Cannonier and Dr Pearman encourage potential clients to visit St George and check out S Factor.
The stylist said: “If you are looking to have a great experience for a great price, come check out S Factor.
“We won’t let you leave until you are satisfied. Our aim is to have every client look and feel great.”
Dr Pearman added: “If you want a one stop shop to get all your beauty needs met, spend some time in St George at S Factor Hair and Beauty Salon.”
