The power of parents' words

By Rev. Dr. Maria Seaman- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

One of the most exciting moments for parents is the moment their baby says his or her very first words. Oh, the power of that moment!

Whether it’s, “Da-Da” or “Ma-Ma”, that moment is elevated as if the baby had just won The Nobel Prize for Literature.

Parents, that ought to be a definite clue to you of the potential that words have in the life of your child.

If your baby’s barely audible first words can practically make your world a better place for that day, imagine what the power of your words can do for your child for the rest of his or her life.

Parents, here is what I love about your words. Your words cost you nothing but can cost your child everything.

Your words can create or crush a world of possibilities for your child. Your words are nothing short of powerful and even prophetic. That’s right, prophetic.

What you say is what your child hears; what your child hears becomes your child’s heartbeat, and out of your child’s heart flows the issues of life.

Be careful what you speak to your child; it will fertilize that child’s future.

There can be no doubt that every baby, toddler, and youngster practically lives to hear approving words from a parent. The tone of a parent’s words means the world to that child.

Parents, here are some important considerations to keep in mind as you shape your child’s destiny by the words from your mouth.

1. Your words come from you but are not for you.

2. Your words must be more about their future rather than your past.

3. The last words your child should hear from you as they leave for school are positive ones that leave your child feeling like more than a conqueror.

4. The first words your child should hear from you when school is over are words questioning how their day went.

5. Listen to what your child talks about and affirm what is said.

6. If you see that your child has a special skill or interest, encourage your child in that area.

7. Remember, your words can propel your child to success in spite of your economic status.

8. Just as you pushed to bring forth your baby, your words can bring to birth a healthy future for your child.

Parents, remember you do not have to be a millionaire to secure an absolutely superb future for your child.

Just watch your words! You and only you will determine how confidently your child will face the world.

While the words of others will count, a parent’s words count the most. Oh, the power of a parent’s words!

Blessings Abound!
