The Bacardi Biennial Exhibition’s coming to town
This year, 68 artists applied with 263 works and 83 pieces from 50 artists were selected for the final exhibition. This year’s jurors, Dr. Annette Blaugrund, Director, National Academy Museum and School of Fine Art, New York and Professor Moe Brooker, Department Head of Basic Studies at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, spent time in Bermuda selecting the pieces for the exhibition. They also met with several of the artists while here.
The seventh Biennial is presented by Bacardi Limited in association with Island Construction Services and will run from April 21 to September 1 and features work completed by Bermudian and resident artists between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2005. The exhibition is open to all Bermudian artists on the Island or overseas as well as foreign nationals who have been resident in Bermuda for at least six months during the competition period.
This year’s work includes paintings, drawings, mixed media and sculptures. There is also a video installation by Glen Wilks, as well as a paper installation by Kendra Ezekiel and head sculptures by Judy Wong.
BNG Director Laura Gorham said in a press release: “This year’s Biennial is once again proof of the diverse and challenging museum-quality work that Bermuda’s vibrant visual arts community is now producing on a regular basis. It is exciting for the BNG to see so many new names and we think visitors to the Biennial will share that enthusiasm.”
