WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30: Male teachers at Warwick Academy are “bristling” with success having grown full moustaches in aid of charity.
Fifteen of the male teaching staff took part in this year’s Movember challenge and have so far raised $6,000 for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre while raising awareness of prostate and testicular cancer. They are yet to collect further pledges including money raised by Warwick students in voting for their favourite “mo”. It is hoped the school will have raised $7,500 by the end of Movember which is to be celebrated, along with other participants from across the island, at Robin Hood tonight from 5:30pm.
Raj Goonewardene, physics teacher said: “As a teacher I like to provide a service which includes educating my pupils and the public at large.
“In the past men may have been embarrassed to go to a doctor, times have changed and we should all be aware of issues men face and what is available to them in terms of treatment and support.”
On a lighter note, geography teacher Ralph Woods, said: “I hope that when I shave this off my dog will stop attacking me every time I walk into my garden!”
