Talent show shines positive light on youth

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27: Dozens of Bermuda's youth turned out to audition for a talent competition on Saturday. Bermuda's Youth Got Talent will take place in May and will feature the top local performers.

Auditions were held at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium at Cedarbridge Academy. The majority of the acts were singers, but dancers, violinists and groups also tried out.

The judges for the competition are Thaao Dill, Power Girl and Nadanja Bailey.

Executive producer Kelly Hunt said: “We were excited to witness over 100 different acts this weekend from an age range of three to 17.

“As expected, the categories taking the stage the most were singing and dancing but we were pleased to see other talents as well.

“The National Drum Academy and an act that included Chinese yo-yos were amongst the more unique showcases that we are looking forward to sharing with Bermuda.”

She continued: “Over the next few weeks, hopeful finalists will be seen during the nightly news hour on ZBM with a reveal of the top twenty acts during a live telethon that will benefit the Coalition for the Protection of Children.

“Bermuda will be asked to make the final decision of who wins the top prize of $5,000 and an iPad2 by calling, texting or going online to vote for their favourite performer.

“The broadcast will air on May 21st with the voting polls closing at midnight on May 24th.

Ms Hunt added: “Putting a constructive spin on the news surrounding our youth and encouraging our young people to get involved with positive outlets is something we are also looking forward to accomplishing through BYGT.
