Stimulating the sale of new and used motor vehicles is the aim of the first-ever Secondhand Car & Bike Show presented by SunShopper, the Bermuda Sun announced today.

The newspaper’s online secondhand marketplace wants people looking to sell their car or bike to register at SunShopper.bm.  The online registration means free participation in the show on May 12 at the Elliott Street Car Park in Hamilton from 10am to 2pm.

“Everyday we help people sell their secondhand vehicles at SunShopper.bm,” said Bermuda Sun President Lisa Beauchamp who oversees SunShopper.bm.  “For the first time we’re transforming our virtual marketplace into a live outdoor showroom.  So if you register your vehicle with us at SunShopper.bm you can then participate in the Secondhand Car & Bike Show on May 12.”

The Bermuda Sun, City of Hamilton, Barritt’s and Irie FM 98.3 are all working with SunShopper to make the show a reality.

Anyone looking to purchase a secondhand car or bike is urged to attend and see a plethora of vehicles in one place where it will be easy to compare value and talk directly with the vehicles’ owners.

Additionally, local car and bike dealers have agreed to offer unique discounts and incentives to anyone who successfully sells their vehicle as a result of the show.  Rayclan, Continental Motors, HWP, Bermuda Motors and KYMCO have all signed up as part of SunShopper’s goal to stimulate motor vehicle sales.

Dealers will also display their new vehicles for shoppers who come by the event.

Continental Motors Sales Associate Anthony Steede said: “We believe that a secondhand car show allows new car dealers the opportunity to showcase the products available as well as affording us an opportunity to highlight the features our vehicles offer.

“At the same time secondhand car sellers sell for two main reasons: one, because they need or want something new or because they are leaving the island.  So either way it benefits us.”

Motor vehicles sales declined 24% in 2011, according to Government statistics.  One of the obstacles to new sales is a slowdown in secondhand sales.  It’s hoped the Secondhand Car & Bike Show presented by SunShopper can help correct the trend of downward numbers.

Attendees will also enjoy live DJ music from Irie as well as food vendors Sensational Delights, Hotdog Delight, Dandy Donuts and the West End Primary Bake Sale.
