Stars look for redemption against Southampton
Premier Division
Western Stars v
Southampton Rangers
On Sunday at 11am
At St John's Field
With their second successive title all but in the bag thanks to Social Club's faltering form. Malachi Jones has excelled for Rangers this season, particularly with the ball, and could fill an all-round slot in the Somerset Cup Match team.
Improving Western Stars have Cup Match regulars Hasan Durham and Saleem Mukuddem back and in decent form with the bat. And with Dwayne 'Sluggo' Leverock, Janeiro and Kwame Tucker all back for Rangers, half of the Somerset Cup Match team could be on display at St John's on Sunday. One man who definitely won't be in red and navy come August 3-4 is Rangers' all-rounder and new St. George's skipper Lionel Cann. Cann has a point to prove after two ducks last weekend and will look to play himself into form before the classic.
Warwick v Social Club
On Sunday at 11am
At Southampton Oval
Cup Match great Charlie Marshall battered two half-centuries last weekend and will fancy his chances of helping himself to another against a Warwick attack that has struggled to come to terms with Premier Division bats so far this season. Social Club definitely need a win after slipping off the pace in recent weeks. They can't afford to fall further behind with Rangers apparently cruising to a second title. Kenny Phillips and Jaymo Durham are the danger men with the ball.
St David's v Somerset
On Sunday at 11am
At St David's
The experience of BCB executive Allen Richardson has bolstered the St David's batting line-up in recent weeks with the veteran middle-order player contributing valuable runs. OJ Pitcher, who, dropped catch aside, put in one of the few steady performances for Bermuda against Jamaica, is also in good nick and could be recalled to St George's Cup Match side after being surprisingly left out last year.
Bailey's Bay v Flatts
On Sunday at 11am
At Sea Breeze Oval
Bay need to recover from back-to-back beatings last weekend. Losing to St David's in a tight Eastern Counties clash on Saturday was bad enough.
But a 101-run thumping at the hands of Premier Division strugglers Somerset capped a miserable weekend at the Sea Breeze Oval. They'll return to the scene of the crime on Sunday to take on Flatts, who need to get some scorecards handed in, to lift them off the bottom of the table.
A win against Bay wouldn't hurt either, but they'll need a good performance from star bowler Nelson Bascome jnr.
First Division
Devonshire Rec v
Leg Trappers
On Sunday at 11am
At Devonshire Rec
Ricky Brangman jnr continued his impressive run of form with a swift and unbeaten 45 against whipping boys Somerset Bridge last weekend. He averages a shade over 40 with the bat this season and is being talked up as a potential Cup Match player for St George's. He's still a long way behind his dad in the batting rankings though.
Brangman snr averages 140 on the latest BCB stats thanks to the fact that he's only been out once in three visits to the wicket this season. Rec have fallen behind Cleveland and St George's in the division standings though and need to beat Leg Trappers this weekend if they are to have a realistic chance of going up.
Somerset Bridge v
St. George's
On Sunday at 11am
At White Hill Field
This should be a routine victory for the east enders against a Bridge side that is in a familiar position - propping up the table.
Jermaine Salaam has had a great season in spite of Bridge's poor form and will once again be the main danger man with the ball.
But in Troy Hall, Oronde and Herbie Bascome, St. George's have more than enough strength to cruise to a comfortable win.
Cleveland v Police
On Sunday at 11am
At Wellington Oval
The division's leading wicket-taker Tamauri Tucker returns from under-19 duty to bolster Cleveland's attack.
Dennis Musson jnr led his team's bowling once again last weekend. Police have got less to shout about and don't look likely to upset the league leaders this weekend.
Willow Cuts v PHC
On Sunday at 11am
At SCC
Fresh from a short trip to Canada, during which they blooded some of their emerging young players, Willow Cuts will be looking to re-establish their league challenge. Kevon Fubler, who has taken 16 wickets so far this season, and Reggie Tucker, currently number four in the island's batting averages, have been key men for Cuts. And they have to fancy their chances against a PHC side which only has Kyle Lightbourne and Neil Anglin in any kind of form.[[In-content Ad]]
