St. Paul AME Church to dedicate new sanctuary
The Bishop of the First Episcopal District, the Rt. Rev. Richard F. Norris, will officiate in a ceremony that will see him receive the keys to the building from Trustee and Chairman of the Church Construction Committee, Mr. Edward Dyer.
St. Paul celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2010 and the new sanctuary features a new balcony and pulpit area along with new pews and central air conditioning.
"This has been an incredible journey but we set out to build on a strong foundation and thanks be to God we are almost there...," said Rev. Dr. Lanel D. Guyton the church's pastor.
Members will march from the Alexandrina Hall to the Church led by the North Village Band, replicating the original march to the site in the 1800s when the church was established. Various dignitaries are expected to be in attendance for the ceremony which will begin at 7pm.
Pastor Guyton continued: "St. Paul is an icon of the City of Hamilton and we are proud to renew our commitment to the community we serve.”
