WEDNESDAY, MAY 23: The final count for this year’s St Baldrick’s Day fundraising event was $329,869.
The annual event sees participants shave off their hair to raise money for cancer research.
The final figure was thanks to the efforts of 50 BAA and 33 Saltus “shavees”.
Organizer Kate Daly told the Bermuda Sun: “One very important goal we achieved was to increase local participation by making this a family-friendly event.
“We had the generous support of local men and women who had beautiful hair that they donated to charity, and who bravely shaved and raised thousands of dollars each.
“The amount we raised was fantastic considering that none of the insurance company officers, who typically draw the most donations, participated in Bermuda this year.
“Because the BAA Gym was such a lively venue, and because the BAA is willing to continue hosting, we are already planning for next year and expect to have more activities for kids, a more robust sound system, more people shaving, and another successful event.”
