Special waste days this Friday and Saturday
Residents may drop off paints, pesticides, pool chemicals and any other materials marked with hazard warning labels. Those unable to attend on these days are reminded that special waste items can be taken to the Public Drop Off at Tynes Bay seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
To assist the public further, special waste paints may be dropped off at participating paint stores, vehicle batteries may be recycled at gas stations and garages and household batteries may be recycled at over 150 locations around the Island.
Last year, Bermuda recycled twenty-four 20ft shipping container loads of vehicle batteries, one 20ft shipping container load of household batteries and sixteen 20ft shipping container loads of motor oil. All special waste materials are shipped overseas for disposal in USEPA regulated facilities or recycled whenever possible.
Keeping hazardous materials out of the household waste-stream is essential to preserving human health and the environment in our Island home.
For further details, please visit www.wastemanagement.gov.bm, or the “What Goes Where” section in the BTC Phone Book blue pages. For commercial loads of special waste material contact Clarkston Trott, Special Waste Officer at 297-7955.
