Some turn to Christ just for the Christmas season

By Rev. Dr. Maria Seaman- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

"It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas." Wow. What a splendid time of the year. "Peace on earth and goodwill towards men." "Ding-dong, Merrily on High!" "Jingle bells!" "Glorious!"

Isn't it strange, wonderful, thought provoking, and powerful, that once we have completed eating the Thanksgiving meal, all hearts and minds point toward the season known as Christmas? Well, what I find even more amazing and almost miraculous, is that it is during this time that mankind chose to adopt a different mindset. Somehow, because it is the Christmas season or the season of the Nativity, people choose to have a different mindset, than that which they possessed for the better part of the year.

Now, while this may be seen as hypocritical to some, I see it as the Miracle of Christmas. Yes! The power of this season is incredible! It will turn Mr. Scrooge into Mr. Scrupulous as he (or she) searches for the best gift to demonstrate his love towards another. This is the season when Mrs. "I can't stand your guts" seems to inch out a smile or two. This is amazing.

This all speaks to me about the power of love. That's right! Like it or not, this time which we have chosen to commemorate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, can cause the vilest of sinners to experience a supreme season of seemingly being sanctified.

(John 3:16 KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The scripture above is the reason that hearts and minds are softened during this time of the year. What we must also see clearly, is that as per usual, the key impetus which drives the reality of this season is the power of choice!

(Eccl 3:1 KJV) To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Season for everything

If we dared to read the entire chapter of Ecclesiastes 3, we would see that there are seasons in life where diametrically opposing realities are possible.

What we must do is decide how we will behave during each season. In other words, when there is a time to mourn, will we mourn as those who have no hope or as those who have hope of the resurrection? In other words, when we have the opportunity to show joy, will we experience joy in its fullness or will we bypass joy in order to keep on mourning about something?

The power of choice is crucial. For even God in all of His glory and majesty, gives us the ability to choose Him and to choose to serve His Son, Jesus Christ. What will we do? There are those that will choose to worship God for a short season and there are those who will choose to serve God for an evergreen season.

The short season is like a Christmas season; it is convenient. The short season is when mankind find themselves in need. This is when they reach out to choose Jesus.

Then there are those who choose to serve Jesus for the evergreen season. Oh, what a joyful season this is. This evergreen season means that no matter what you may go through, you have made a choice to serve and worship Jesus. Truly, "Tis the season to be jolly!" Bermuda, let us choose to enjoy this season. It is a holy season and it is a wholesome season. Blessings Abound!
