WEDNESDAY, JULY 25: So what will it be? Barrington Levy or Collie Buddz? The Dusk Til Dawn Rave or the Cup Match After Party at Snorkel Park?
The only problem this Cup Match is there are just too many parties to choose from. Bermuda has stepped up its game this year to prove to the world that this is no sleepy little island — especially when it comes to the great annual Emancipation Celebration. Here is the comprehensive Cup Match party event list — good luck choosing!
Somerset Cricket Club cup match
July 26 — Pre Cup Match Seniors’ Tea and Fashion Show hosted by Terry Smith.
July 27 — Happy Hour with St George’s Cricket Club family and friends (light refreshments provided).
July 31 — Final meet and well wishes to the team and pre Cup Match West End Ministerial Church Service at Somerset Cricket Club with Dr Glenn Bascome.
August 1 — Tailgate Party —Cricket Lane. DJ playing music — fun for all.
Summer Slam
July 27 — The 1st Annual Summer Slam Live at Snorkel Park featuring International acts. From 10pm to 3am. Marlon Asher (Ganja Farmer) from Trinidad, Black Chiney from Jamaica, Fiyah Marshall who will be releasing his single Never Stop from Bermuda. Also Supatone Sound Rusty G. Hosted by Ninja Cutty & ‘La Chica Bahia’ Angie Torres from Tampa/Orlando 96.1FM and many more surprise acts. Mechanical Bull/Beer Drinking Contests/Booty-Shaking Contests and More. Tickets from $30 to $75.
Cup match rave
July 28 — The best in dance, techno, house and dubstep will be at Docksiders. Drinks specials, music by OB1 and Einstein. Even more lights, glow sticks, black lights, strobes and finger lights. In association with Vibe 103. Advance tickets are $15 from Docksiders and Sovereign Jewellers and on the door — $20. Wear neon and bright colours.
Masquerade ball
July 28 — Shed the bonds of society and bask in the air of mystery and excitement at the Masquerade Ball. From 8pm to 1pm at CedarBridge Academy/ Dress code is contemporary—masks are available at the door free of charge. Price is $35.
Beachfest
August 1 & 2 — Dancehall and reggae legend Barrington Levy is to headline the seventh annual BeachFest this year.
Levy was one of the success stories of the 80s and the concert marks a huge scoop for organizers The Chewstick Foundation. BeachFest takes place over two days again this year (Wednesday, August 1 from 6pm to 2am and Thursday, August 2 from 9am to 9pm) on Horseshoe Bay.
Levy will share the stage with Trevor Hall and Dead Prez as well as local artists on the Wednesday night including Joy T Barnum, Anti Boy, R?ddler and Canjalae Taylor.
For Thursday’s free event there will be the usual fun and games including football and volleyball tournaments and, yet to be confirmed, the first ever beach netball tournament as well as the Wacky Races and tug ‘o war. Tickets for Wednesday’s paid event are available from ptix.bm and Chewstick Foundation headquarters on Court Street. Ticket prices start at $50 in the first week and increase to $60 closer to the event.
Collie Buddz and New Kingston
August 1 — Reggae fans are in for a treat on the eve of Cup Match as Collie Buddz is due to headline his first concert on the island with his band New Kingston. Concert takes place at Barr’s Bay Park. Tickets are $50 or $30 for under 18s and are available from www.ptix.bm, Kit ‘n Caboodle, Jamaica Grill, Fish ‘n Tings, Sovereign Jewellers and all Gosling’s stores. The first 200 tickets purchased will sell for $40.
Wet Water BalLoon Fete on Ubervida
August 1 — The Wet T Water Balloon Fete. Boat departs Front Street just before midnight returning at 4am.
The trip wil include 600 water balloons plus super soakers. Tickets are $30, including two drink tickets — available from www.ptix.bm
Dusk Til Dawn rave aboard Ubervida
August 3 — Hop aboard for this late night party. UberVida will be docked near Rockaway Ferry from 10pm. Water taxis will be running from the boat every hour on the hour.
Tickets are $20 in advance from www.ptix.bm. Price at the gate will increase by $10 every hour, up to a maximum price of $50.
Cup Match after party
August 3 — The Fantastic 5 Entertainment Group will be throwing its annual Cup Match afterparty again this year. The theme is CupMatch Fever — Island Heat. Expect high energy, fist pumping, heart throbbing, party music from Champion Squad. Locally they have DJ Aztec, Video DJ Keem, Supatone, New Era and Imega. They will also have limbo dancers, fire dancers and Gombey dancers. There will be fun competitions for cash prizes. Tickets are $20 advance to July 21, then $30 thereafter. Start time 8:30pm to 3am. Ticket outlets are Mambo, Kit N Caboodle, Jazzy Boutique, The Garage (Warwick), Snorkel Park and event DJs.
Soca vs Reggae
August 3 — Shal Marshall takes the soca corner while Wayne Marshall takes the reggae for the sixth annual Soca V Reggae competition. This year’s event takes place at the Royal Naval Dockyard — gates open at 9pm. Tickets are $40 from www.bdatix.com.
Cup Match day trip aboard Ubervida
August 4 — Cup Match Day Trip aboard UberVida. Dive Snorkel Suntan departs from Front Street at 2pm, cruising to North Rock and returning at 8pm.
Tickets include a buffet and are $85 for regular or $105 for snorkelers and divers. Snorkeling gear, dive tanks, weights, and all other equipment are available for pre-order rent. Full cash bar. Tickets available from www.ptix.bm.
Ubervida for non-mariners
August 5 — UberVida will be taking passengers for the Non-Mariners Race departing from Front Street at 10am and returning at 6pm. There will be DJs and live performers.
Tickets are $150 and include an open bar and BBQ. $50 tickets available for 2 hours aboard the boat.
City of Hamilton lift your voice
August 5 — Gospel inspired music at Victoria Park takes place from 3pm to 8pm.
Non-Mariners Race
August 5 — It’s the wackiest of all wacky races — the Non Mariners Race and this year it celebrates 40 years. Sandys Boat Club will be opened at 10am.
Non-Activities start with: Non-Penguins Fly Past 1:14pm + 63 sec; Non-Noodle Race 1:30pm + 64 sec; Non-Memorial to our Mass-Cot 1:47pm + 69 sec; Non-Calypso Pipe Band 2:29pm + 84 sec; Non-Float Race 3:00pm + 67 sec. The fun runs until 7:30pm
