FRIDAY, OCT. 19: Michael Sims shot a 69 today but slipped two places in the First Stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School.
Sims will have to finish in the top 18 to move on to the second stage and after three rounds he sits 11th.
He is just five strokes behind leader Robert Lopez of Texas, but only two ahead of making the cut.
Sims has shot 70, 71 and 69 in his three rounds so far.
He had his entry paid into the 2012 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament.
Sims earned the bonus — worth $4,500 — by finishing in the top 20 money list on The eGolf Professional Tour.
He was eighth on the list by earning $54,839.
He set an eGolf record with a 12 under par 59 in the second round of the Southern Open in July. That left him with the nickname of ‘Mr 59’ for the rest of the season.
David Siegel, president of the eGolf Tour, said in a press release: “We realize that it is in our best interest to do all we can to assure our players make it to the next level, and it is our hope that this bonus will allow all of them to do just that. Our goal is for these guys to play their way off of our tour, not simply stick around for years to come.”
