Sometimes it's the little things that make a difference.

Jason Simons wasn't even supposed to play in the Premier Basketball League's All-star game on Saturday.

The 'little brother' of Steven Simons was listed as an alternate for the East squad, but when Ryan Rabain couldn't play, Jason stepped in to fill the void.

Jason was the East's second leading scorer with 17 points.

But it was Steven who led the way with 30 and won the game's MVP Award.

Steven said: "It was a great honour. There were a lot of good players in the game and anyone of them could have won it."

The East roared off to a an early lead in the first half and were up by 24 points before going into the lockerroom ahead by 16.

The West kept fighting back behind the one-two combination of Chris Crumpler (34) and Lee Greene (24) and eventually narrowed to deficit to three.

But victory wasn't meant to be for the West as the they lost by five points at the MSA gym.

Simons said at the end of the game difference was in free throws as the East made clutch shots from the line down the stretch.

Prior to the game Adam Correia won the skills competition while Crumpler was crowned the three point champion.[[In-content Ad]]
