Screening of comedy classic to boost grants scheme
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12: A special screening of a classic comedy will help boost a fund offering grants to young Bermudians studying at Scottish universities.
The Caledonian Society of Bermuda is to screen Whisky Galore — a 1940s black-and-white classic about Scottish islanders who loot a ship wrecked with a cargo of Scotch whisky.
And drinks firm Gosling’s is to get into the spirit of the event by providing whisky sampling before the screening. The latest recipient of the one-off $5,000 grant is Lianna Aggarwal, who started a five-year degree in Veterinary Medicine at Glasgow University last month.
Ms Aggarwal is the fourth young Bermudian to get a Caledonian Society grant, awarded to students studying full-time at a Scottish university or college.
Last year’s recipient was former Saltus pupil Jonathan Starling, who is taking an MA in Urban and Regional Planning at Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University.
Whisky Galore will be shown at the BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium on Sunday, October 16. The whisky-tasting starts at 6.15pm and the curtain goes up at 7pm. The BUEI’s Harbourfront Restaurant will also be offering a special $46 menu for moviegoers.
Tickets cost $20 and are available at www.premiertickets.bm. Information on the Caledonian Society and other events can be found at www.CaledonianSocietyofBermuda.com.
