The Scots, like Bermuda, have no realistic chance of winning the Intercontinental Cup.
But Watts insisted that winning was still paramount for his energetic young side.
Speaking after an intense fielding session in the midday heat at the National Sports Centre yesterday, Watts said: "We want to try and set a precedent. It's important to put a marker down by hopefully getting a win here.
"We are going to be playing them (Bermuda) quite a lot and it's important to show them and every other team that they are going to be tested to the max when they play against us."
Watts is familiar with Bermuda stalwarts like Dwayne Leverock and Irving Romaine, who have been around for years. But he admitted he did not know too many of the current players.
"They're rebuilding but that process is obviously going well. Beating Canada in Canada is no mean feat. Bermuda cricket is on its way up.
"We don't know what they (the new players) are like but we have quite high standards for ourselves. We hope to win the game."
Watts and his fellow players had a good look at the pitch during yesterday's training session and despite the questions locally over whether it would hold up to four-day cricket, seemed pleased with what they saw.
"It looks quite dry. We are expecting it to turn. We've come across a lot of wickets over the past few years and we are prepared for anything.
"Our bowling is our strength. We've got a couple of good spinners - Ross Lyons and Majid Haq. But we've got good quality seamers as well, so we will be well equipped - come what may."
Watts was equally serene about the baking hot conditions insisting his young side could handle the conditions.
"We're quite fit and I don't think it will be too much bother," he added.
The Scots are without a few of their experienced campaigners like former England test player Gavin Hamilton, pace bowler John Blain and former skipper Craig Wright.
But Watts insisted this was not a second-string XI.
"We are a young side but we're not an inexperienced side. We've played quite a lot of cricket over the past few years."[[In-content Ad]]
