The Rumbar will be alive with the sounds of Latin, Jazz and Funk with the venue’s Supper Club band.
Beats Working, led by Bermuda drummer Howard Rego, will entertain guests of the Hot August Nights events every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Mr. Rego has had a successful musical career having played with the likes of Sly and the Family Stone among others.
You may also recognize him from the Blues Brothers tribute band the Booze Brothers who last year played at the Bermuda Society of Arts.
Robert Saunders, manager of Latin and Rumbar based in Hamilton, explained the seed of the Hot August Nights event was planted by previous shows such as the Festival Latino featuring Grammy award winning Willy Torres (which culminated in a Cinco de Mayo party), and also one off shows such as Sybil Barrington’s Queen of Bermuda Revue that attracted international press.
“During Festival Latino”, Saunders said “guests were amazed at the design of the space, and commented that the courtyard area, with balcony dining, comfortable lounge style seating and outdoor dance floor was like nothing else in Bermuda.
“They asked us to do it again and we are doing just that!”
Mr. Rego added: “Phil Barnett (President of Island Restaurant Group which owns Latin) and I discussed trying to create something that everyone in Bermuda could grab hold of. We discussed how Hubie’s had shut down and how so many people were begging for someone to start up another rocking drinks, dinner, and dancing event that was just as much fun as Hubie’s.
“Phil was saying that he wanted something ...hot, which of course I can do!”
Hot August Nights runs from 7pm to 10pm.
