Rugby to be added to Pan American Games
"This is a very exciting development for rugby in North America and we are very excited about the prospect of our men's national teams competing in what is a major multi-sports Championship" enthused Tom Jones of the International Rugby Board (IRB).
"This will increase the profile of the Game across the Americas, providing the stimulus for increased development within the region's developing Unions. The IRB is backing the compelling case for the inclusion of Rugby Sevens in the Olympic Games and the inclusion in the Pan American Games represents a significant step in that process", he concluded.
The inclusion is a massive boost for rugby, especially after the Bermuda team performed so fantastically in the recent World Cup Sevens Qualifiers, and which also saw them finish in second place in the Caribbean Championships to now three-in-a-row champions Guyana.
