MONDAY, AUGUST 8: The City of Hamilton today announced that from 7:00am on Tuesday, August 9 through to Thursday, August 11, Reid Street at Spurlings Hill will be closed to all traffic in order to pave the area, following the extensive trenching that was carried out last summer.

There will be one lane of traffic from the East Broadway round-a-bout through to Front Street with no access to Spurlings Hill. Traffic traveling into Hamilton along Middle Road will be diverted at Montpellior Road, Corkscrew Hill and Shelton Road. However there will be access to Cavendish Car Park.

Between 7:30am and 4:30pm motorists leaving Hamilton, King Street, between Reid and Front Streets will be reduced to one lane of traffic. An alternative route will have to be found by motorists who usually leave the City by traveling down King Street to Reid Street Extension on to Middle Road.

Likewise, traffic will not be able to travel down Spurlings Hill onto East Broadway but must travel along Front Street to East Broadway. Between 4:30pm and 7:30am motorists will be able to use Reid Street Extension onto Middle Road or Spurlings Hill to leave Hamilton.

Mr. Ed Benevides, Chief Operating Officer and Secretary to the City of Hamilton said, “We are working to ensure this important road resurfacing takes place as quickly as possible to reduce disruption to the flow of traffic into and out of the City. City staff will be placed in locations along the route to assist with the diversions and traffic flow.

“Of course, these closures are entirely subject to the anticipated inclement weather that is expected to affect Bermuda over the next few days. We apologize for the inconvenience and strongly encourage people to leave home a few minutes earlier in the morning in order to avoid delays.”
