Reggae Awards: Sneak peek
Held by Palmrock Entertainment, the Reggae Awards will take place on August 29 here in Bermuda. Promoter Donovan McKoy expects more than 100 artists and entertainers to attend the event, as well as industry execs and press. Although most of the information about the event won’t be released until May, we can give you a sneak peek of what to expect.
McKoy says several artists are already confirmed to attend the event, including I Wayne, Keyshia Cole, Turbulence and Richie Stephens. The awards will also be broadcast around the world by HYPE TV – McKoy hopes to reach millions of viewers.
Votes can be cast for each of the categories for the awards online in May and all of the awards will be viewer’s choice. McKoy says there will be several websites to vote on, including www.palmrock.com. The categories for the awards include: Marcus Garvey Humanitarian Award, Emperor Haile Selassie I Award Of Excellence, Prestigious Awards For Outstanding Contribution To World Music, Distributor Of The Year, Best Calyso/Soca Entertainer, Best Popular Sound System/Selector, Most Consistent Entertainer, Best Backing Band Concert Of The Year, Songwriter Of The Year, Producer Of The Year, Most Cultural Educational Entertainer, Best Dub Poet, Best Music Video, Most Outstanding Stage Personality, Best Male Dancehall Dj, Best Female Dancehall Dj, Best New Artist Of The Year, Best Gospel Song Of The Year, Best Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Male Vocalist, Best Female Vocalist, Recording Artist(s)/Group Of The Year.
There will be a launch party for the awards at the end of May, with artists and representatives from HYPE TV.
