WEDNESDAY, JAN. 18: R&B singer Brian McKnight will be coming to Bermuda, but not just for the ladies.
The Grammy-award winning artist will be performing to raise funds for a football tournament and an education fund.
The Bermuda chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will be hosting Mr McKnight on February 25 at the Fairmont Southampton.
Event coordinator Anthony Hunter said: “We focus on bringing in quality entertainment as we have done in the past in the month of February.
“Brian McKnight was chosen based on his musical talents and song writing contributions to R&B.
Impressed
“In addition, a few good friends have seen his performance in the US and were very impressed, an awesome show.”
The funds raised will help finance the Kappa Classic, Bermuda’s largest youth football tournament and the Kappa Education Fund.
Mr Hunter said the event is targeted towards a mature crowd looking to relax, socialise and listen to one of the best R&B singers on tour.
Asked what he would say to encourage people to come out, Mr Hunter said: The Men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Bermuda Alumni Chapter’s projects are labours of love with no personal gain to which we are dedicated to, contributing and giving back to the community.
“This economic climate has driven the Kappa’s to seek other ways to fund our non-profit programmes and events.
“The Kappa Classic will enter into its 14th year in 2012 and the youth of Bermuda look forward to the Annual Kappa Classic Football Tournament.
“We can’t stop, we continually brainstorm, looking for ways every year to finance this event for the children and the community as a whole.
“It will be a great time.
“Come out and enjoy a great evening of entertainment.”
General admission is $100 and VIP is $150.
Doors open at 8pm with the show starting at 9pm.
Local talent includes the Wall Street Band, Stevie Darrell, Kassandra Gabrielle and Steve Easton.
Sponsors include Medical House Ltd., The Bermuda Department of Tourism, Fairmount Southampton Resort and United Airlines.
