Public meeting on Job Corps Programme

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 14: The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, advised today that there will be a public meeting Thursday, November 15, to update on developments with the Job Corps Programme.

The meeting takes place at the Bethel AME Church Hall, North Shore, Hamilton Parish at 7.00 p.m.


According to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Hon. Patrice Minors JP, MP, the Job Corps Programme is an initiative featured heavily in Government’s overall employment and training goals of the One Stop Career Centre.

As a reminder, the Job Corps initiative is a free voluntary programme that provides education and training to vulnerable young people aged 16 to 24.

It helps them establish a career, earn a high school diploma or GED and find and keep a job. Some of the participants will be those who have chosen to drop out of high school while others will be individuals who wish to further their education.

Minister Minors said today, “It is important that the public is given the opportunity to provide their views and input on this initiative. Some will already be aware that Job Corps is a free education and training programme that helps young people gain self confidence, prepare for a career, earn a GED and excel in a profession. 

“The programme employs a holistic career development training approach which integrates the teaching of academic, vocational, employability skills and social competencies through a combination of classroom, practical and work based learning experiences to prepare young adults for stable, long-term, high-paying jobs. This programme is being designed as a residential programme and Harmony Club, in consultation with the Bermuda Housing Corporation, has been identified as the venue.”
