This is the concert to change Bermuda - the first in the One Love Concert Series, which organizers say will help bring peace to the island.

Next Saturday, Sizzla will perform here. He is the creator of such hits as No White God, which was his first hit single, and Just One of Those Days. Sizzla will perform alongside several local artists at Clearwater Beach. Other acts performing is scheduled to include Joseph Shepherd, Ninja Cutty, Corvin Melody, Ras Giorgis, LocTight and Fires of Africa.

There won’t be any pre-recorded backup music either — every single act will be backed by a live music, the Step by Step Band from Jamaica. The concert is presented by Kalonji Records and Spanish Town Entertainment, and is the first in a series that will run throughout the rest of the year.

The entire focus of the One Love Concert Series is peace - the motto of the concert is Unity in the Community Worldvibe. The organisers of the concert series say that the concerts are a way to use entertainment as a means to address social issues.

Glenn Doers, of Spanish Town Entertainment, said: “This concert will help to address some of the social ills that Bermuda is suffering and we will find that when our young people have more positive activities they will do, perform and be more positive. We have a responsibility to address that.”

Sizzla first began singing and writing songs as a teenager and went on to create Kalonji Records and The Judgement Yard, a community centre for Rastafari youth in August Town, Jamaica. His latest release was his ninth album, Ain’t Gonna See Us Fall.

Eugene Dean added that the concert series is important for the development of Bermuda, and one of the best ways to bring peace to the island. He said: “The concert series is a programme…to us, it’s much more than a show. It's a programme where we're looking to address a lot of adverse conditions in the community. People are boiling for culture and entertainment and the arts. People need that — Unity in the Community Worldvibe. We're about involving, incorporating and embracing on all levels.”

The Sizzla concert begins at 10pm on May 6. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the gate, and are available at Eru-Atile on Court Street (292-5906), Logic on Burnaby Street (296-9640) and Spanish Town Entertainment on King Street (295-4917).[[In-content Ad]]
