One last chance for Bermuda to get a win

Bermuda has one last chance tomorrow to salvage a win from a desperately disappointing tour of Africa after slumping to a sixth consecutive One-Day International defeat.

Despite the best efforts of in-form Saleem Mukuddem who hit another half century and the miserly spin bowling of Dwayne Leverock, Bermuda went down to a three-wicket defeat at the hands of the Canadians.

Mukuddem was the only batsman to fire as Canada's Ugandan seamer Henry Osinde ripped out the top order.

Osinde got rid of Clay Smith (11), Dean Minors (0) and David Hemp (0) in a devastating opening spell, from which Bermuda never recovered.

Mukuddem's knock of 57 and 21 from Lionel Cann helped Bermuda to bat out their overs.

But a total of 178 was never likely to be enough and another crushing defeat looked on the cards when Canada reached 86 for one inside the first 22 overs.

But Leverock, who finished with immaculate figures of two for 22 from ten overs, combined with fellow left-arm spinner Hasan Durham (2 for 47) to peg back the Canadians.

Seamer Kevin Hurdle (3 for 52) also chipped in with valuable wickets but with another sub-200 effort to defend Bermuda's bowlers were always up against it.

And a late blitz from all-rounder Umar Bhatti, who struck 22 from 18 balls, dashed any lingering hopes of an unlikely victory, giving Canada the win by three wickets with more than ten overs to spare.

Bermuda now lies bottom of the tri-series table without a point to its name.

Gus Logie's side go into tomorrow's game looking for a win against the in-form Dutch to avoid a clean sweep of one-day-international defeats on the tour.[[In-content Ad]]
