FRIDAY, JUNE 3: The Southampton Princess has introduced night golf to its array of leisure activities.
As the golf season kicks off the resort has put an innovative twist on the much-loved sport.
Night Golf will see the hotel’s Par 3 course’s greens and holes lit up with a series of 12-inch lights and includes golf balls that glow for ten minutes after being struck.
Anthony Mocklow, director of golf at the Fairmont Southampton, said: “Adding Night Golf to our range of activities provides a tremendous opportunity to expand the game.
“Golfers who simply don’t have the time to play during the day are now able to spend their evening testing their skills on our Par 3 Course.”
Mr Mocklow added, “While Night Golf has been around for over twenty-five years, innovations in technology now allow the ball to be lit while maintaining 85 per cent of normal golf ball flight. This means that experienced golfers will have to adjust their game. This creates a unique situation where low handicappers will have to make more adjustments to their game.”
“Initial interest in Night Golf has been phenomenal ranging from private individuals to charities that have recognized this as a golden opportunity for fundraisers.
“Also, the interest and demand for Night Golf has already inspired the team here at the Fairmont Southampton to hold Bermuda’s first Night Golf Championship in October.”
Night Golf is held at the Fairmont Southampton’s Par 3 course every Thursday starting at 8:30pm.
