The Losers

**

Stars: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, Jason Patric

Director: Sylvain White

Rated: PG-13

Showing:

Runtime: 98 minutes

Action/adventure

This mindless, misogynistic and violence-drenched action flick is a mix of the A-Team and Mission: Impossible - but without the style or substance of either.

Director Sylvain White aims for stylized violence but presents outright brutality that should merit an R rating.

There is no clever, polished plan - just explosions and bloodshed.

Watchmen and Grey's Anatomy star Jeffrey Dean Morgan deserves much better than this uninventive, dumb script packed with silly dialogue.

The plot follows an elite CIA unit, led by Dean Morgan's tough guy Clay, who are sent into the Bolivian jungle to track down and destroy a drug lord.

But the five-strong team is betrayed and almost assassinated. Presumed dead, they set out for revenge on their enemy, the shadowy Max (Jason Patric), a ruthless villain who plans to detonate a superweapon in LA.

Also on Max's trail is the mysterious Aisha (Avatar's Zoe Saldana), a sexy but savage operative who teams up the renegade band.

Based on a comic book of the same name, The Losers is a dumb but fun popcorn movie.

It's predictable and has far too many clichéd, slow-motion action sequences but

if you like testosterone-fuelled fight scenes, fireballs, flying weapons and endless gunfire without much need for plot then it's right up your street.

The attempts at humour are more silly than funny and the one-liners are downright idiotic - but this movie is all about brainless brawling, not banter.

Even the weapons are ridiculous - the superbomb is called a "snook", which sounds more like a fashion trend than a nuclear explosive.

Watch if you liked: GI Joe.
