Drama
Rebellious teenager Ronnie Miller (Miley Cyrus) is sent from New York to a southern beach town to spend the summer with her estranged father Steve (Greg Kinnear).
The pair's former close relationship has crumbled following his divorce from Ronnie's mom Kim (Kelly Preston) three years previously.
Angry and alienated from her dad, Ronnie has even rejected playing piano because he taught her - despite being a prodigy with offers of a place at world famous musical school Julliard.
She is miserable, hostile and defensive when she arrives in Tybee Island, Georgia, even to handsome and popular beach volleyball player Will (Liam Hemsworth).
But when they get involved in a project protecting a Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest, they get closer.
Meanwhile, Ronnie and her dad's shared love of music is slowly healing the cracks in their relationship, making her summer one she will never forget.
Based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, author of book-turned-movies The Notebook, Message In A Bottle and Dear John, the film is about many different kinds of love, including first love and the love between parents and children, and how relationships can both break and heal hearts.
Miley Cyrus is branching out now her hit TV show Hannah Montana is in its final season and she doesn't sing as well as act in this movie, likely to be a disappointment to many young fans.
Fans of Sparks' novels will enjoy this tale, the first he has adapted himself, and Greg Kinnear gives his usual solid performance.
Young Bobby Coleman also impresses as Ronnie's younger brother Jonah.
