The Last Airbender **
Stars: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Rated: PG
Showing: Southside Cinema week of July 16 - daily at 7:30pm
Runtime: 103 minutes
Action/adventure/fantasy
When the Fire Nation declares war on its fellow nations of Air, Water and Earth, the destruction rages on for a century with no hope of peace in sight.
Until young Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. He teams up with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother Sokka (Twilight star Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their world.
The animé TV series the movie is based on was an engaging mix of middle Eastern religions, Inuit culture and martial arts but the film fails to emulate it despite its live action, 3D and excessive CGI.
Under-10s will enjoy it though.
Watch if you liked: The Karate Kid, Indiana Jones.
