Horror

The seventh and final chapter in the scary series slashes its way out of the big screen in time for Hallowe’en.

The Saw franchise is the top grossing horror franchise of all time, raking in more than $370 million since the first movie was released in 2004.

This 3D installment has the same basic plot of its predecessors — the sadistic killer Jigsaw sets terrifying torture traps for a string of petrified victims.

But instead of a bunch of random people being brought together, this time the victims are survivors of previous films who have come together to support one another.

The movie is as gory, grisly and ultra-violent as the first six and is enhanced by the sleek 3D effects — it is the first film to be made with the state-of-the-art SI-3D camera system.

There are lots of in-your-face shots of deadly weapons as Jigsaw’s traps come alive.

The movie also boasts the long-awaited return of Cary Elwes from the first movie, with fans finally learning the fate of his character, Dr. Lawrence Gordon.

We last saw him disappearing into the unknown after being forced to cut off his own foot.

Director Kevin Greutert, who directed Saw VI and edited the first five, keeps the tension high and the torture graphic — this is not a film for the faint-hearted.

Fans of the franchise will consider it a fitting farewell to the popular serial killer but it will also get a thumbs-up for those seeking some gory viewing for Hallowe’en.
