Family/comedy
Based on the popular series of children’s books by Beverly Cleary, this heartfelt family comedy focuses on the misadventures of nine-year-old Ramona Quimby and her elder sister Beatrice, aka Beezus.
We see the world from Ramona’s point of view as she lives in the shadow of her sister, a straight-A student irritated by her younger sibling’s overactive imagination.
But their rivalry takes a back seat when their dad loses his job and considers a new one far from their home — will their lives be turned upside down by a move?
Determined to stay put, Ramona comes up with a string of money-making schemes, which, of course, go disastrously wrong.
The movie is more sentimental than comedic but Ramona’s accident-prone antics will get laughs from its target tweenage viewers.
And the young cast give remarkably natural performances, notably Selena Gomez (Wizards Of Waverley Place) as Beezus.
