Documentary/music
Now, following in these mighty rockumentary footsteps is, er, Justin Bieber.
Yes, just when you thought Celine Dion was the worst ‘musician’ Canada could inflict on the world it unleashes the 16-year-old tween idol.
From YouTube sensation to global star, the kid has won an army of fans with his cheesy pop. Well, there’s no accounting for taste.
Part documentary, part concert footage, this movie chronicles his rise to fame and his preparation for his sold-out gig at Madison Square Garden.
There is a lame attempt at creating tension by showing the singer falling ill days before his big concert but it’s overly melodramatic.
Die-hard fans will love the home movies of Bieber, intercut with interviews with his mom, grandparents and friends.
The parents who have to take said young fans will have to admit the kid works hard, especially when compared with celebrity spawn Jayden Smith, son of Hollywood heavyweight Will.
He is handed a guest slot at Bieber’s show without paying the same dues — years spent busking, entering talent shows and trawling the U.S. begging radio stations to play his records.
His blasé indifference at such an incredible opportunity is a huge contrast to Bieber’s justifiable excitement at making his long-sought dream of performing to thousands come true.
The overexposed singer may be annoying but at least he earned his fame rather than inheriting it from his famous folks.
A string of other celebs also appear to praise the singer, including Usher, Miley Cyrus and Ludacris.
