Action/comedy/crime
Cult indie director Kevin Smith, of Clerks and Dogma fame, makes his first studio movie - the first film he hasn't written himself.
Cop Out is a homage to 80s buddy cop movies such as Lethal Weapon and Beverly Hills Cop served up with plenty of gross-out comedy and action sequences.
Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are Jimmy and Paul, a mismatched pair of veteran NYPD cops hunting a Mexican drug lord.
The memorabilia obsessed crook is behind the theft of Jimmy's prized rare baseball card, which he needs to sell to pay for his daughter's wedding.
Morgan is a great comic foil to Willis's straightman and behaves pretty much as he does in 30 Rock.
Sadly, the movie just isn't that funny, well written or the clever, tongue-in-cheek tribute to buddy cop films it aspires to be.
Smith's movies usually focus on witty, humorous dialogue and he probably could have done a better job with the contrived script.
