FRIDAY, JUNE 15: The first round of the Bermuda Open Championship started Thursday with the professional, amateur men and amateur ladies divisions. Blue skies and light breezes met the players on the first hole and stayed throughout the day.

In the ladies division, past champion Tariqah Walikraam was able to bounce back after a very shaky start to share the lead with Ann Symonds. Young Elizabeth Parsons is only 2 shots back while defending champion Katrin Burnie is 6 shots back.

Adam Mattatall fought his way around Port Royal to take the early lead in the men’s amateur division finishing with a 75. Close behind him are Ian Page, David Smith and Mitchell Campbell all on 77.

In the professional division, defending champion Jordan Mitchell showed that it would not be easy to take his crown as he opened with a -2 69. Local professionals Daniel Augustus and Camiko Smith still have Jordan in their sights, but will be going home thinking about the shots they may have left out on the course.

Round 2, scheduled, for Friday was pushed back until Saturday after the torrential downpour made play impossible.

You may see pictures and video of the first round on the Bermuda Golf Association Facebook page.
