Minister discusses further education opportunities in Jamaica
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27: Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith is in Jamaica to discuss educational opportunities at the University of West Indies.
A press statement said Dame Jennifer said the purpose of this trip is to determine and finetune the details of Bermuda’s relationship, so that students can be made aware in time for the MOU’s effective date of September 2011 — the beginning of the academic year.
Former Premier Ewart Brown signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the university last August.
While in Jamaica, the minister and her team will meet with the Minister of Education Andrew Holness, the Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Nigel Harris and the Principal Dr. Gordon Shirley and other heads of department. They will also tour the university’s facilities and the University Hospital.
It is the Minister’s intention, after her return, to inform students and the public of educational opportunities for September 2011, and to provide Cabinet with full details of the opportunities arising from Bermuda’s associated status with the University of the West Indies.
