Two people have been honoured for their dedicated work for others.
Loderick Holder and Llewlyn Simmons both received Rubber Tree Community Service Awards from Kim Wilson, Minister of the Economy, Trade and Industry, at a special ceremony.
The awards were launched in 2009 to celebrate the achievements of individuals who have provided years of service to the Warwick Parish community — with their efforts often going unnoticed.
Mr Holder is one of the founders of the Cedar Hill Block Parties and was a driving force behind the campaign to get Longford Hill Road widened with sidewalks erected between St. Mary's Road and Middle Road.
He has been a member of the Warwick Parish Council for three years and also provides much-needed support to the Lorraine Rest Home.
Welfare
Mr Simmons is a founder of the Handy Man programme with Age Concern and has been a member of the Berkeley Institute Board of Governors for 13 years.
He has been actively involved in ensuring the welfare of Bermuda’s seniors and is committed to protecting their -interests. The awards are organised by the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation.
This year’s accolades were -presented at the -weekly Rubber Tree market in Warwick on Saturday, where the recipients are both vendors.
Roxanne Christopher, business development officer and project manager for the BSBDC vendor markets, said: “Both of these -individuals have served the Warwick community for years and were nominated because of their unfailing concern and care for the community at large.
“These unsung heroes have always made sure that the Warwick stakeholders were cared for.”
