Manders: Under-19s are committed to the cause
The youth side haven't suffered any of the commitment problems that have blighted the senior national squad and some of the top club sides.
While St George's, who they beat at the weekend, got only one player out for training mid-week, the under-19s have consistently had more than 15 at their three weekly training sessions.
And coach Manders believes that instilling a professional attitude at this stage will reap benefits for Bermuda down the line.
"That's what we are trying to hammer home with every one of our development squads - under-13s, under-15s, under 19s. We need to get that professional attitude before they reach the senior team.
"It should be a natural progression so when they get to the seniors the coach doesn't have to worry about whether they'll show up for training or whether they're out nights being a pain in the butt.
"Our guys have been pretty good for the most part. We are trying to teach them to be professional on and off the field. It won't happen overnight but we are pleased with their progress so far."
Manders admitted there had been a few problems with key players, like Steven Bremar and Oronde Bascome, not showing up to training in the early stages.
But he said Bremar, considered by many as one of Bermuda's most talented young bats, had been back out on a regular basis and had earned his place in the team. Bascome was also back in training this week but was not named in either squad for the weekend games against Western Stars and Social Club.
But Manders insisted it was not about individuals.
"We want to get the best out of all our players. We can't afford to rely on one or two individuals. We have three dedicated coaches, three very good role models for them. We are working on refining their techniques and making them more aware of the technical side of things.
"It takes time but they are young and they are growing. They are coming out to training and we have seen a vast improvement since the beginning of the year."
Manders' under-19 side have, so far, reaped the benefits of their hard work, winning two and losing two of their games in the Premier Division.
"We are seeing them improve every game. We have got two more tough matches against Western Stars and Social Club and hopefully we can come away with two wins."[[In-content Ad]]
